Arthur Foliard, ECD at Koto
An Interview with Arthur Foliard from Studio Koto, Competitive Reviews for Designers, BTS Event and more.
Hey, what's up.
I try to make it to the First Round Conference every year. It’s great. It focuses on a first round of creative work, rather than the polished final product the world sees. One of the best talks this year was from Arthur Foliard, ECD at Koto.
He talked about the Bolt rebrand, the creative “vision” they set for design directions and the controversy over the logo.
At the end of the talk, I left feeling like Koto is the real deal. Personally, I think there’s probably a Design Firm of the Year award heading their way pretty soon—we’ll see!
I also thought fuck I’d love to interview this guy, and here we are. See below :)

Competitive Analysis Deck
A 45-page guide I created that teaches Designers how to conduct creatively led Compeitive Analysis.
This one weirdly attracted a lot of attention! On LinkedIn of all places.
I underestimated people’s interest in it and created a “comment and we’ll dm you” style post. Which to my dismay, led to me spending the next 2 weeks checking back in to personally dm the pdf to the 300+ people who requested it on our Toil post. 🫠 🫠
After this month, this resource will be moved to the paid section. More to come!
COLLINS x Molly — Behind the Scenes
BTS is a great event series I attended here in New York.
It’s 7-minute talks about your biggest failures to a room full of people. Rules are: no recording, no cameras and what’s said in the room stays in the room. Here’s Brian Collins explaining it in more detail.
Keep an ear out if you’d like to attend the next one, I heard it’s going to be in December!

Vincenzo Marchese Ragona is an interdisciplinary graphic designer. But I think he’s most well-known for his motion work. A great talk he did is here.
